Light Verse
This is the character design I did for a short science fiction story called Light Verse by Isaac Asimov. It is about a very wealthy widow named Mrs Lardner who buys many valuable jeweled artifacts and displays light sculptures at her only by invitation parties held at her mansion. She is not only known for her light sculptures, but also for her crew of robots. None of these robots has ever been readjusted because she said these maladjustment is what makes each robot unique. When a roboticist named John Travis came to her party and secretly adjusts one of her robots, Mrs Lardner reveals to him that the robot (Max) he had adjusted was the one who actually made the amazing light sculptures. John has been trying to imitate her light sculptures for a long time, but failed at every attempt. Mrs Lardner was filled with so much rage that she stabs John with a knife and kills him. John does not attempt to defend himself because he realized that he had destroyed the one thing that he wished to learn from.
